Difference between manganese zinc and nickel zinc of ferrite ring inductors

Ferrite ring Inductors are divided into manganese zinc ferrite rings and nickel zinc ferrite rings. Depending on the material used, the calcined material is also different. Nickel-zinc ferrite rings are mainly made of iron, nickel, and zinc oxides or salts, using an electronic ceramic process. Manganese zinc ferrite magnetic rings which are made of oxides and salts of iron, manganese, and zinc, also made by an electroceramic process. They are basically the same in terms of material and process, the only difference is that the two materials are different, manganese and nickel. It is these two different materials that are used in the same product with very different results.

The manganese zinc material has a high magnetic permeability while the nickel zinc ferrite has a low magnetic permeability. Manganese zinc ferrite can be used in applications where the operating frequency is below 5 MHz. Nickel-zinc ferrite has a high resistivity and can be used in the frequency range of 1 MHz to several hundred megahertz. The exception is Common Mode Inductors, where the impedance of the Mn-Zn material makes it the best choice for applications below 70 MHz, while for applications from 70 MHz to several hundred gigahertz, Ni-Zn material is recommended. Mn-Zn ferrite rings are generally used in the kHz to MHz frequency range. They can be used to make inductors, transformers, filter cores, heads and antenna bars. Ni-Zn ferrite rings can be used to make cores for mid-period transformers, heads, short-wave antenna bars, tuned inductor reactors, and magnetically saturated amplifiers. The range of applications and product maturity is much more advantageous than that of Mn-Zn ferrite rings.

How do you differentiate between the two cores when they are mixed together? Two specific methods are described below.

1.Visual inspection method: Because manganese zinc ferrite generally has higher permeability, larger grains, tighter structure, and often black color. Nickel-zinc ferrite generally has low permeability, fine grains, porous structure and often brown color, especially when the sintering temperature is low during the production process. Based on these characteristics, we can distinguish them by visual methods. In a brighter light, if the color of the ferrite is black and has a relatively harsh bright crystal, then the core is manganese zinc ferrite; if you see the ferrite is brown, dull luster, the particles are not harsh, the core is nickel zinc ferrite. The visual method is a relatively crude method that can be mastered with some practice. Magnetic Ring Inductor ordering

2, Test method: This method is more reliable, but requires some test instruments, such as high resistance meter, high frequency Q meter, etc.

3, test pressure.
